Balanced & Nutritious Diet

First and foremost, eating a balanced and nutritious diet does not have to be basic or restrictive. It is all about having things in moderation. What does that mean? It means that along with eating your vegetables, meat and pastas, you can also have some chocolate and snacks along the way. If you’re trying to eat healthy, you may find yourself “doing well” for a few days and then splurging on sweets and snacks (also known as binge eating) which is often the result of having an unmaintainable diet. The reason it’s important to eat these snacks you desire in moderation, is so healthy eating becomes a lifestyle that is maintainable for you, especially if you’re new and starting to change your diet.

Why should I eat a nutritious diet?

A healthy, maintainable diet along with exercise is vital for maintaining functionality and good physical, cognitive and mental wellbeing. Eating a diet that consists of nutritious foods gives your mind and body the fuel that it needs to function and repair itself. “Various studies have shown that chronic diseases including neurodegenerative diseases may be prevented or delayed by adapting to a healthier diet and lifestyle”. Therefore, it is important to eat nutritious meals that contain micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) and macronutrients (carbohydrates, fats and proteins) to provide the mind and body with the fuel it needs to thrive and survive.
